Text-to-Self Connection

I can honestly say I would have never thought I would be able to make a connection to Si. I mean he wears camouflage everyday while I would prefer to wear a dress. He is able to hunt, which we all know I would not be able to hunt for the life of me. But I was reading a chapter he wrote about snakes- funny thing is is that he is afraid of snakes- which you would think if you are in the woods everyday you would get over that fear but apparently not. This is what Si said, "As you may can guess, I don't like snakes. The only good snake is a dead snake! If anyone tries to mess with me when it comes to snakes, they're going to have a fight on their hands." (Robertson 43)when I read this I thought this is exactly like me. You can ask any of my friends I am deathly afraid of snakes (to the point where I can't even look at a picture of one)! I couldn't agree with Si more about the only good thing about a snake is when its dead! If I see a snake I will freak. period. It could be in a cage and I would still run away in fear! I don't know how Si does it!Even though he has to face his fear of snakes everyday and has been bitten 27 times I can still connect to his fear.

I also noticed some verbal irony (sarcasm) while reading that chapter. Si says, "Northwest Louisiana, where we grew up, is one of the few places in the United States that is home to all four of the venomous snakes of North America: the copperhead, cottonmouth, coral snake, and rattlesnake. We're even blessed to have two kinds of rattlesnakes: the canebrake and the eastern diamondback. Boy, aren't we lucky?" (Robertson 44)obviously he's being sarcastic when he says they are blessed to have two kinds of rattlesnakes- considering he is scared of snakes I doubt he's happy about that. Also the last sentence in that quote "Boy, aren't we lucky?" he's not saying they are lucky he is using sarcasm once again to get his point across that he's not happy Northwest Louisiana is home to all four venomous snakes that live in North America! :)

Why I chose this book!

After I finished reading The Lucky One (which is an amazing book by the way- you should read it) I decided to take a break from Nicholas Sparks books- I know its crazy, I never thought I would say those words. I chose to read Si-Cology by Si Robertson (with Mark Schlabach) I know what your thinking, how do you go from Sparks books to books about people from the A&E hit TV  show Duck Dynasty. Well I will tell you. My family (mostly my sister, my dad and myself) all love the show duck dynasty and all of the people on the show- we especially love Si. I had put this book on my Christmas list and when I opened up it I was the happiest girl in the world at the time (I know its weird) its my favorite present I got for Christmas- hard to believe right? well its true. I even started reading it that night. So far I love the book because it sounds exactly like Si and all of his catch phrases he uses, for example "Hey!" "Hey Jack" now in his book he even says (which he says on the show too- if you have seen it) "Hey can mean anything. It can mean yes, it can mean maybe and it can mean no. Hey, it could mean next week. The bottom line is, you have to understand "Hey" to understand me."

Krista Ramsey Post

I chose Newlyweds spend first year raising groom's twin sisters because it sounded like a really touching story. Its about a couple that adopted the grooms (Ryan) 8 year old half twin sisters, Isabel and Elizabeth. Their mom had passed away after she had a seizure which then cased her to fall over into the road and get hit by a car, the twins father was in jail at the time. All the kids needed was love and some understanding and their stepbrother and his wife (Megan) did just that.

The most well written line in this column is "And the twins – who have known their share of sorrow – are grateful for the joy.". I chose this as one of the most well written lines in this article because I think it really pulls everything together and shows how they have gotten better without reading everything. Ramsey also uses "-" in her writing which could represent the change the twins have gone though, sorrow to joy in this sentence. Ramsey's style is sad at first but grows happier as you read more about how much Ryan and Morgan have done to make sure the girls have everything they need to be successful and happy, and that's what it shows in that quote as well.

I think Ramsey's writing style is flowery and elaborate because she always pulls in the reader in an interesting way and not a boring staccato way. She also talks to the reader by saying "you, him, they". For example in Ramsey: For better vision, kids need time outdoors she grabs the reader right away "You see it all the time. Your teenager at the dinner table, waiting for his checkup at the orthodontist’s office, sauntering to his car – continually hunched over his smartphone or iPad." I don't know about you but this really catches me because I can relate to this... well I'm the one doing it not the parent.

Book Review: The Lucky One

Book Review: The Lucky One

I really did enjoy reading this book, last weekend you could hardly get me to put the book down. My parents even started to wonder what had happened to their daughter Madison (I don't read a lot) but when I find a good book I read  a lot! After I finished the book I also wanted to watch the movie so my friend came over last night and we watched The Lucky One! The movie was also really good but there were some parts that were different from the book that bothered me a little bit but I was able to look past that! I'm having a difficult time rating this but I think I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 because it was just like any other classic Nicholas Sparks book, guy meets the girl, they fall in love, something tears them apart, they make up, ends happily ever after. Don't get me wrong I LOVE his books but sometimes he has to change it up a bit maybe? I don't know that's just my personal opinion. As I mentioned in my last post how I began to like how there was a different character each chapter that is now probably one of my favorite parts of the book because you were able to see each characters thoughts and actions through there point of view and I really enjoyed that. I also like how everything connected and flowed through the story. Sparks always does a great job with romance books. I'm thinking about reading The Longest Ride by him next?! Does anyone have any other suggestions? If so, comment them below! :)

Theme developent throughout The Lucky One

Beware, this might be a long post! Oh my gosh, where to start?! When I first started reading The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks I'll be honest I wasn't impressed with the book. I didn't like how each chapter was a different character because I wanted to keep reading about that same character, so I would read a chapter about a character and then stop reading because the next chapter was a new character. Well 301 pages later I can't put the book down (I'm going to have to tonight though when Kentucky plays at 8:49, GO CATS!) to my surprise I have to grown to really enjoy reading about a new character each chapter, it keeps me wondering and its nice to see each characters point of view. I only have 84 pages left to read and there is still a lot I'm hoping will happen... like what's going to happen with Logan and Elizabeth and is Clayton going to try to tear them apart? it sure seems like it, but come on in a Nicholas Sparks book in the end (if you have ever read one of his books) you know there will be a happy ending, its almost like a fairytale and everything works out after something try's to tear them apart, oh yeah that brings me to my post:

If you happened to have read my previous post Most Important Line from The Lucky One you should already know the story behind the picture. But that picture hasn't gone away yet... and I'm not quiet sure it will anytime soon. Anyway that picture of Elizabeth plays a huge role in the theme (I mean it has to, without that picture there would be no story). Logan's friend had told him that it was his destiny to find the girl that was in the picture, Logan thought that was non sense at first... but look where he is now... coincidence, I think not! With that I think the theme of The Lucky  One is to go with your fate or destiny and don't fight it or deny it. I think that part of Logan walking from Colorado to North Carolina was doing just that, going with the flow I guess you could say- not overthinking just doing. I think this is the main theme that that is guiding Sparks decision within the plot because without the picture there would be no story and without him going to look for the women in the picture there would be no story. Also this picture does both pull them closer when Elizabeth doesn't know he has the picture and pull them apart when Elizabeth finds out that Logan has a picture of her- not just any picture, the picture of her that she gave to her brother while he was serving in Iraq. I mean come on if you were in her position wouldn't you be a little creeped out too? I sure would be. I have a feeling this theme will keep playing a role in the story since I'm assuming Logan and Elizabeth will end up together in the end because it is there destiny to be together!! :o)

If you are interested here is a line the The Lucky One Movie Trailer, Nicholas Sparks and some of the actors talk about the book and movie... they even talk about destiny!!
